Ran a White Water Safety & Rescue course in Caithness for Colin, Ewen, Matthew, Ken and Astrid. Venue was Dirlot gorge on the River Thurso. A scenic spot as you can see as we walk in to the start, Astrid carrying her lunch in carrier bag.....the "Caithness" way.
Ewen launching in bright sunshine, which was replaced from time to time by snow showers!!
A pleasant grade 2-3 gorge section. Unfortunately water levels were very low after recent dry weather but the gorge gave us enough situations to cover the syllabus adequately.
Here Ewen takes a drop in driving snow!!
Astrid pulls clear of the awkward drop after the big pool below the castle at Dirlot.
Celebrating a clean run for everyone through this rapid. :-)
Lovely scenery in the last significant rapid of Dirlot gorge. Astrid.
Matthew showing poise in the same rapid......
....and Ken acting as sweep.
Changing times at the takeout as wind turbines loom over the landscape, taking advantage of the legendary windy climate of this lovely region. Thanks to all who attended the course and for the great hospitality in Wick overnight.
