Cree River, Galloway, 1st Sept 2009

After a great run on the Minnoch we moved up to the Cree, very nearby.

An hour of flat paddling with one class 3+ rapid in the middle brings you to the excitement. The first major event is this gnarly class 5 falls with a nasty picket fence below it. We called this one
"Mincemeat Falls".

Here Callum is approaching the drop.....................

Chris emerging below the first drop in a "black attack".

The Cree water is like coffee. As you dip your blades in its waters they disappear.

The highlight of this run is Box Canyon Falls, a magnificent drop in a wonderful setting.
A boof here is a must. Protection can be given from the midstream island. Here Callum launches to avoid the heinous hole at the base.

Chris in mid air.................

and clearing the hole at the base............phew!!

Looking back up into the Box Canyon as Callum makes a second run.....what a rapid!

The lower gorge of the Cree has some interesting grade 4 rapids that lead almost all the way to the takeout.

One of the final rapids. Most rapids have jagged rocks to avoid.

The Cree overall is an unusual adventure. Slightly messy rapids, requires a good level, but well worth it for the Box Canyon falls alone.
