30mms of rain in my rain gauge at Spean Bridge overnight indicated that rivers would have come up very fast. The Spean was "5" on gauge, so we elected not to do Roy Gorge which would have been huge and travelled south instead to do the Coe with Chris Ravey, Stephen Cant and Pat Ingram. Coe was a new run for all of them. Wind was howling and on the top part of the river it was hard to even see the water which created some problems for all of us.
Here Pat batters through the wind on the upper rapids of the Coe.
Chris and Stephen ran Massacre Falls (4/5). Here Stephen nails the line.
Pat on the middle section of the Coe.
Chris leads Pat and then Stephen into the magnificent Clachaig gorge. I think that this is actually Scotland's finest rapid, a box canyon that goes for maybe 5 or 6oo metres without a break.
Heading deeper into Clachaig Gorge.
....and deeper still. No place to swim!! Magnificent and memorable boating.
Lower down the river opens o0ut near the takeout at the Visitor Centre. The Coe enjoys spectacular mountain views from the run.
Afterwards, Chris and Stephen went to run the River Leven which was huge, higher than I have ever seen it. We bottled the upper section and clambered down to put in below "End of the World" and run into and through the lower gorge which was exciting enough! This is a view of grade 5 McCaig's Falls in the lower gorge, which we portaged on river right.
