As levels come down from the high of Friday morning, decided to join Sean, Felix and various guys from Sutherland to Inverness to Morayshire to Speyside on a run down the Averon. 2.8 on gauge at the put in. 10 of us went afloat.
The river is a never ending succession of "weirs" made of artificially placed large granite boulders. These do make for some interesting drops. Ewan runs an early rapid.
A sunny backdrop as Andy makes his way through another bouldery rapid
Kevin enjoying a fun ride.
Ewan goes for the boof
Punching through
Boat scouting a drop
A fine lunch spot
Lower down the river a few more natural rapids appear
This ragged series of ledges seems to catch all the trees going. Chris comes down in Andy's boat!
This was the only clean slot in the middle of this long rapid
Pat working his way across the river above the final ledge...................
................. and running the final slot with mouth wide open!!
Scenic bluffs appear from time to time on the lower river
Remains of a crazy metal bridge litter this rapid. The estate has placed some pretty ill advised structures in the way of this river, which to its credit, is doing its level best to destroy them!
John floats out of another long rapid
Some of the last rapids are characterised by shallow ramps of conglomerate into powerful holes, catching out more than one of the team at times.
Thanks to all the guys for the trip and the ride up. Chris :-)
